Removing barriers that keep kids from succeeding in school
Readiness to Learn (RTL) is an early intervention program at the elementary school levels and is designed to identify and assist students who have a pattern of truancy, absenteeism, or tardiness. Being family-based, it focuses on the need for families and children to feel connected to their school, on development of appropriate supportive parenting skills, and on early intervention for children who are disengaging from school.
The RTL program is partnered with AmeriCorps Youth In Service to provide direct service at Thurston County elementary schools. If needed, the full-time RTL AmeriCorps member can provide services such as tutoring, conflict mediation, after-school programming, and family involvement activities.
RTL AmeriCorps members also provide community referrals to students and families.
RTL can help with referrals to:
- Counseling Resources
- Housing
- Food Banks
- Parenting Classes
- Support Groups
- Medical and Dental Care and Insurance
- Holiday Assistance
- Job Training and Employment
- Adult Education Counseling Resources
