What does the CareerTREK Program offer?
CareerTREK is a federally funded program designed to help qualified, low income young people ages 16 – 21 become skilled and employable in the career area of their choosing. Once enrolled in the program, staff will assist participants by providing:
- assessment of basic educational levels, career interests and abilities
- help to create a career path that meets the needs of the participant
- support for the completion of a high school diploma/GED or higher educational degree/certificate that will provide training for entering the labor market
- help to develop a career plan and provide assistance to find financial aid for higher education, enter the military or begin a career
- emergency funds for transportation, rent, food, clothes, etc.
- workshops on life skills (budgeting, conflict resolution) and employment skills (resume writing, job search, interviewing, keeping a job)
Participants will be eligible for a paid work experience, limited internships and/or scholarship funds.
What are the eligibility requirements to be in the program?
If you have the desire to achieve your goals and are willing to make your plan a reality, you are already on the way to success in the CareerTREK program. In order to enroll, you must meet the following requirements:
- Meet low-income qualifications, 70% of the federal poverty level
- Have a need for assistance such as: lack work experience, English as a Second Language, behind in credits to graduate, school drop-out, offender, in foster care, young parent, family conflict etc.
- Have the desire to gain educational qualifications that meet your individual career goals
- Be able to provide eligibility documentation: including birth certificate, social security card, proof of income, proof of address, etc.
How do know if I am low income?
Contact any of the case managers listed to the left to help determine if you meet the income requirements for CareerTREK.
Application Packet Process
- Contact the CareerTREK program and speak to a case manager about your financial eligibility
- Print and complete the CareerTREK Assessment sheet and submit to CareerTREK program, 711 State Ave NE, Olympia, WA 98506 in person or by mail
- Schedule an interview with CareerTREK staff
- Bring all required documentation on eligibility form to the interview appointment.
- Note: Acceptance into the CareerTREK program depends on your needs, meeting required eligibility, submitting required documentation, available funding and your motivation to participate in the program.
Funding Source
The CareerTREK scholarship is program of Community Youth Services, funded through the federal Workforce Investment Act. Funds are made available through the Pacific Mountain Workforce Development Council. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
